With worries mounting about the 2026 General Election, voters are asking us which voting process does DCDC recommended.
At the DCDC September meeting this was discussed here’s our recommendation. All voting processes are good. However, DCDC recommends voting as early as possible.
EARLY VOTE BY MAIL
Any registered voter in NY can request an early vote by mail ballot from the Board of Elections. If this is your preference, don’t wait. Request it now. When your ballot arrives, complete it and mail it right away so there are no concerns about mail delays. Once you request the ballot, you will not be able to vote on machines at your polling place. If you lose your ballot and want to vote at your polling place, you can, but not on the machines. You will need to request an affidavit ballot.
ABSENTEE VOTING BY MAIL
Registered voters who meet certain requirements (reasons for why they cannot vote in person) can request an Absentee Ballot. Again, don’t wait. Request your ballot early. When it arrives, complete and return it right away so there are no concerns about mail delays.
EARLY VOTING
Registered voters can vote in person on machines at the Delaware County Board of Elections at 97 Main Street, Suite 5 in Delhi. Generally, this is during the week prior to the election (and the weekend before and after that week). Early Voting Days and Hours. Early voting at the DCBOE is accessible to voters with disabilities.
VOTING ON ELECTION DAY AT THE POLLS
Many prefer the “feeling” of voting at the polls on election day, and it’s a perfectly good way to vote. That said, unexpected things can happen in your life on election day, and folks have missed voting due to things they didn’t forsee. Cars break down, sickness, injury or other unexpected things crop up that grab your attention—and before you know it, it’s 9:30pm and you realize you just plain forgot! This is why we caution voters to consider earlier voting options.
If you do plan to vote on election day, use some tricks proven to help you to remember. Make a plan in advance about what time you will go. Even better to plan to go with a friend or family member.
