LTE Writer’s Guidelines
Guidelines for writing and submitting Letters to the Editor. Writing a Letter to the Editor (LTE) is like being on a mission to advance your personal version of the Democratic agenda—your candidates and the legislation you support. The goal, ultimately, is to shift the power balance in Congress, and get the numbers we need to pass legislation which is truly “for the people,” not the billionaires.
Secret Sauce: Matt Fried and “Can We Talk”
Remember how you felt on Trump’s re-election? Was it grief, rage, fear, isolation? And how do you feel now? Are you no longer able to talk with certain family members? How are you managing the emotional roller coaster of this administration? This story is about how small group of your neighbors are managing, with the help of Matt Fried.
The Numbers Suggest We Need Deep Canvassing
As in 2024, the balance of power in Congress hangs on NY-19 and a handful of other tight-margin districts across the country. Getting Riley elected is a big responsibility to shoulder, but we’re lucky; we can impact not only our county’s future, but our country’s future.

Secret Sauce: Alan Haley and DC Resisters
Haley’s volunteer work for DCDC showed him a gap where he was uniquely suited to make a difference—connecting with young progressives. He created a DelCoDems TikTok identity, and convinced many rising young influencers to be guests on DC Resisters.
NY State: Stemming the Tide of Voter Suppression
Trump’s fixation on the SAVE America (SAVE) Act shows just how worried he is about a blue wave in November. If it passes, the SAVE Act would end mail-in voting, force voters through onerous proof-of-citizenship, and require states to turn over voter rolls to the federal government. Fortunately, it has garnered pushback and raised awareness of the lengths Republicans will go to prevent Democratic victories.
Hands Off Our Votes
In April we sounded an alarm about Republicans steamrolling voting rights, most recently by redrawing Congressional maps in their favor. In NY State, Democratic legislators and pro-democracy groups are fighting back with an urgent demand to pass the “Hands Off Our Vote” legislation.
SNAP cuts hit home in June
Now is the moment when people in Delaware County will feel the bite of the Trump administration’s cuts to the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program. More than 10 percent of county residents rely on SNAP for food assistance.
The Constitution Pipeline: Update
As of April 2026, the long-beleaguered Constitution Pipeline is involved in renewed legal and regulatory battles between the developer, Williams Companies, and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

Why support the NY Health Act? Fear of losing access to affordable healthcare is gripping people across party affiliation, age group, and geography. Yet few New Yorkers know that our State legislature is considering a single-payer healthcare bill that could deliver one of the most progressive health care programs in the country.

DCDC Statement: Alex Pretti
In just over two weeks since Renee Good was murdered in her car, another American citizen, Alex Pretti was shot and killed by Homeland Security’s masked, tax payer funded goons on the streets of Minneapolis.
DCDC Statement: Renee Good
The DCDC condemns the killing of Renee Nicole Good, a 37 year old American citizen and mother of 3, by an ICE officer in Minneapolis. The fatal shooting of an American citizen in her residential neighborhood is the tragic result of ICE’s aggressive, chaotic and undisciplined attack on our communities in the name of immigration control and enforcement. We call on Senators Schumer and Gillibrand and Congressman Riley to step up, demand an investigation of ICE from top to bottom and slash the 73 billion dollars allocated for ICE in the OBBB.
A Letter from DCDC Chair, Kathleen Hayek
I want to congratulate everyone for making it through a very hard year and sticking together. It was rough and we could not have gotten through it without each other’s support. And I want to thank every one of you for every single thing you did in the resistance to tyranny and standing up for democracy. It is you all, defenders of justice and democracy, all of you, caring and daring to show up in whatever way you can, that always pulls each of us through the inevitable moments of fatigue and despair. We did a LOT in 2025…
