In his recent letter to the editor, Mr. Kalibat from DeLancey clearly enjoys devising derogatory policy slogans for the new administration, and it had me thinking up a whole list of unpleasant slogans for the previous administration. It admittedly felt great to do so, but in the end, I don’t think it’s helpful. If we are to solve the real problems we face in this Country, and in our neighborhoods, we must find common ground. We all want
the same things for our family, such as good health, stable incomes, and hope for the future. I happen to be a Democrat because I do believe Democrats have a stronger desire to make these happen, but I also know that we need to work together, we need to find some kind of unity across Party lines. The Republicans can make fun of unity because they have never claimed an interest in the concept, but that doesn’t mean it is not worth fighting for. Democrats may fail, the current administration may fail but, hey, at least we are going to try. We are going to continue to fight for increasing access to health care for all families, more direct stimulus dollars for all families, funding for States – both Democrat and Republican – struggling to deal with covid, and creating good-paying green energy jobs to help give all our children and grandchildren a good home on this struggling planet. So, my recommendation for a slogan would be simply this: We’re All In It Together.
