Celebrate the Constitution and Voter Registration Day-
On Tuesday, September 17, The Delaware County Democratic Committee will host a celebration of Constitution Day on Courthouse Square in Delhi from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. This public event will commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. Across the nation, celebratory events have multiplied since 2004 when Congress passed a law requiring every school and college receiving federal money to teach about the Constitution on Sept. 17th.
The program will feature a short address by Richard Stein, former co-publisher and general manager of the Riverdale Press, a Pulitzer Prize winning weekly newspaper in the Bronx. Stein will focus on the importance of the first amendment and freedom of the press in our democracy.
In addition, there will be readings related to the Constitutional amendments that expand voting rights and guarantee equal protection under the law. Test your knowledge with a Constitution quiz, tap your feet to the music of the Tremperskill Boys, and grab a quick dinner from Ty’s Taco Truck. Top it off with home baked treats for dessert.
And, if you haven’t registered to vote, a voter registration table will be available.
