Town Council:
DONNA M. VANSICKELL
How did Donna VanSickell come to be on the Harpersfield Town Board? It was somewhat serendipitous: an opening happened when one member resigned, and another board member / neighbor asked her. He thought she would be a “good fit.” He was right; her skills and outlook have made that partial term a success, so Donna decided to run for her first full term.
Donna and her husband Tom originally came to Delaware County as weekenders back in 1981, and have lived here full time since 2007, first in Bloomville and now in Harpersfield. They first came to this area from New Jersey for its beauty and friendliness — they have many friends! — and stayed because of the lower living costs.
Donna learned to multitask over her many years managing a small dental office and she brings that facility to her position as a board member.
She sees her job as a Town Board member as representing the people, trying to ensure that the board is responsive to the residents and that their concerns are heard. She is “still learning. I like helping the team — we work together well.” One of Donna’s current goals on the committee is the budget —particularly looking at expenses related to salaries, retirement benefits and equipment costs as all of these have increased significantly.
What has she learned about Harpersfield and its residents while being a member of the board? She says there are a lot of people who follow the website and the Town’s social media. And they come to the board meetings with their interests and issues. There are frequently a half dozen or so community members at board meetings. She’s discovered that people really care about this town and that the actions of the Board matter to them.
Why vote for Donna? She is enthusiastic, cares about people and their needs, and likes to help people and respond to their concerns.
