Own hometown candidate, Janet Tweed of Delhi, swept the June 23rd Democratic primary election in Assembly District 102, defeating Greene County residents Mary Finneran and Thomas Boomhower. Janet thanked both of her opponents for the uplifting tone and fact based content of their campaigns.
As she prepares to take on Republican Marcus Molinaro in November’s general election, she stated that—in contrast to her opponent—she will never accept money from corporate PACs. She characterized Molinaro as a career politician whose decisions primarily benefit his own career and those of his wealthiest donors.
In her victory statement, Janet promised to fight to uphold her constituents’ Constitutional rights “including the rights to free speech, due process and protection against illegal search and seizure and cruel and unusual punishment—for all people”.
Janet has taken bold positions on healthcare, supporting the New York Health Act and the expansion of school based healthcare for all NY kids. She supports a moratorium on any new data centers in New York and calls for legislation giving consumers the right to opt out of AI in their use of technology. Based on her experience serving on local municipal boards, Janet calls for Albany to switch to a dedicated distribution model for rural water and sewer infrastructure funds instead of the current “grants based” system which heavily favors larger communities.
The 102nd Assembly District covers the towns of Bovina, Davenport, Delhi, Franklin, Hamden, Harpersfield, Kortright, Meredith, Roxbury, Stamford and Walton.
