Delaware County Family Court Judge:

GARY ROSA

Hard to believe it’s been ten years since Middletown Town Justice Gary Rosa was elected Delaware County Family Court Judge Gary Rosa, but it has. And, sure enough, Judge Rosa runs for re-election come November 4th, this year.

Ten years ago, Gary Rosa became only the third Democrat to win Delaware County-wide office since Ray Marks, also of the Town of Middletown, rode FDR’s coattails to be County Treasurer back in 1932. County Judge Bob Estes (1982 and 1992) and County Clerk Gary Cady (1992), both of Walton, had been the only victorious Democratic candidates for County Office since – until Gary’s election in 2015.

If you want to understand Delaware County’s Family Court Judge, drive a couple miles up Dry Brook, out of Arkville. Gary Rosa grew up surrounded by nature and agriculture, hiking and camping, hunting, fishing and trapping as so many other Delaware County kids did in the sixties and seventies. He’s the local kid, went off to complete his education, then came home to live, work, and serve his community, as he raised his own family.

Gary Rosa and his twin brother Gene were the middle pair of the six children of Lester and Mildred Rosa, he the longtime local New York State Forest Ranger, she the strong guiding hand of a Catskill Mountain mother. His older brother, Alan, was a long-serving County Supervisor and the founding Executive Director of the Catskill Watershed Corporation.

A graduate of Margaretville Central School, State University of New York, and Albany Law School, Gary practiced law in Margaretville for  several decades, entrusted by his neighbors as their go-to attorney. Elected and re-elected Town Justice, Gary was further entrusted by his neighbors to provide a fair hearing, treat everyone with respect, and dispense justice honestly. He has the trust and respect of those who know him best.

“Hanging over my desk is a 2015 photo of Andes Town Justice Joe Grieco swearing-in Middletown Town Justice Gary Rosa as Delaware County Family Court Judge,” says Bill Birns, Gary’s high school teacher and campaign manager. “Two most honest men I know, in that photo.”

Gary and Lori Rosa have raised four children, now all grown: Ryan, Brendan, Andrew, and Katie. Katie remains close to home, living in Delhi and running Bloom Fabric, Art and Retreat, in partnership with her mother, on Main Street Margaretville. Lori Rosa recently retired from Walton Central where she taught many current adults high school social studies, helping kids grow up responsibly along the way. The three boys are off making their parents proud.

The Delaware County Democratic Committee officially endorsed the re-election of Judge Rosa at the DCDC December meeting.
